An inspiring progression from Take-off! 1, the innovative concept for teaching beginner wind students, is progressive and flexible, and can be adapted to the individual pupil or ensemble.
Great melodies – modern, catchy and fun to play. All tunes are homophonic – rhythmically identical, great for developing timing, articulation, phrasing and intonation, and optimises the development of a good sound from the outset.
The addition of ‘pit stops’ with musical games and puzzles to help read music, train the hearing and develop a sense of rhythm.
The tracks on accompanying professionally recorded CD are creative, modern, catchy, and fun to play. All songs on the CD are also available on Spotify, iTunes, Deezer and other streaming and download services.
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Take-off! 2, which can also be used independently, is the sequel to Take-off! 1, the instrumental method for beginning wind or school orchestral musicians. As with Take-off! 1, the second book contains catchy music and attractive melodies with a manageable range and simple presentation. The pace can be adapted to suit the individual. The melodic range of music in this volume spans 10 tones.
A new feature of Take-off! 2 is that there are as many as four parts for every piece of music. The book for each instrument therefore contains, in addition to the melody, the music for the 2nd and 3rd part. The trombone, bassoon and euphonium/baritone books contain all four parts and the tuba books contain the melody together with the 4th part. These different parts offer students the opportunity to gradually extend their range and play together with musicians at varying levels of proficiency.
All the newly-introduced notes can be looked up in the fingering chart at the back of each book. In the drum/percussion book there are, in addition to the drum kit part, two independent percussion parts. In the bass guitar/accompaniment book a bass part and melody part are given together with the chord symbols.
The given chords for accompanying instruments can be used by the teacher or an experienced pupil to provide backing on the keyboard or guitar. Beginners on these instruments can play the melody along with the rest of the ensemble.
Thanks to the exceptionally well thought-out arrangements,Take-off! 2 can be used for all sizes of ensemble—from trio to full orchestra. The pieces are mostly homophonic, meaning that all parts are rhythmically identical. This is especially useful for developing timing, articulation, phrasing and intonation, and optimises the development of a good sound from the outset.
The basic idea behind Take-off! 2 is to encourage students to develop their own arrangements that suit their skills. On the CD, the tracks are repeated two or three times consecutively. On the first play through, all students can play; on the second play through a soloist or instrumental group can play; with everyone coming in again together on the third play through. There are endless possibilities for creating one’s own combinations. The accompaniment parts for volume 2 are also provided as mp3 files that can played on a computer.
The enclosed CD is an important study tool that enhances and completes the material contained within the book. The bandleader should make good use of the audio in rehearsal and it should form an integral part of individual practice too. The CD is just as important for learning as the book itself.
All songs on the CD are also available on Spotify, iTunes, Deezer and other streaming and download services.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]
